Mastering Percentages in Real Life
Percentage Increase vs. Difference
It’s a common mistake to confuse percentage increase with percentage difference. Increase/Decrease is used when a single value changes over time (like a stock price). Difference is used to compare two separate values (like comparing the height of two buildings).
The Formula for Success
Our AssetMaster Percentage Tool uses standardized mathematical formulas. For instance, the Percentage Change formula is: $$ \text{Change \%} = \frac{\text{New Value} - \text{Old Value}}{|\text{Old Value}|} \times 100 $$
Common Quick-Calculations:
- GST/VAT: Add 18% to the base price.
- Tips: 15-20% is the global service standard.
- Discounts: Subtract the % from 100 before multiplying.
